Americans throw away 25 percent more items during the holidays, according to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
Rumpke wants to remind customers that some items shouldn’t be thrown in the trash or recycling containers such as liquids, flammable items and batteries.

Some items that should be recycled include wrapping paper (not foil), wrapping paper rolls (cardboard), gift boxes and gift bags (paper, not foil.)
Some items that shouldn’t be recycled include Christmas lights, extension cords, tissue paper and plastic packaging, bags and toys.
