Scott is facing a murder charge in connection with the 2004 stabbing death of Chadwick Stapleton.
Police said Stapleton was stabbed getting out of his car in a parking lot.
They said they arrested Scott right across the street two years ago.
Police said they recovered a lot of evidence from the scene but it was not enough to indict Scott.
Investigators said they were able to come up with more evidence which led to the indictment.
They said Scott was nowhere to be found until police said they got a call from authorities in Atlanta last week.
They said a store clerk called police thinking he was trying to pass a bad check.
Chief Chris Krug said, "It turned out the check wasn't bad, but as a result of the interaction, they put his name in the computer and discovered he had a murder warrant."
Scott was returned to the Dayton area Monday.
Krug said police have still not determined a motive for the slaying .
Scott is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $1 million bond.
