Taco Tuesday: Chain offers deal on new fish and chicken tacos

What better day than Tuesday for a mini fiesta?

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is offering deals on the fish and chicken tacos it released in the Dayton market last week.

Its Taco Tuesday deal includes two tacos, a side and a 24 oz. soda for $5.99, said Erin Fischer, spokeswoman for the Miami Valley's six Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations, including the new store at 6221 Old Troy Pike.

That location opened just last month and has a drive-thru.

There are two options for Tropical Tacos — grilled tilapia or chicken.

We haven’t tasted them, but they sound mighty good.

The tacos come on a toasted flour tortilla with shredded romaine lettuce, a sour cream-based chili lime sauce and Caribbean salsa.

No cheese,” Fischer said. “It doesn’t need it. I promise.”

They have about 200 calories each and cost $4.99 for a pair.

Fischer said they can be mixed or matched taco.

While we are on the subject of tacos, Gustavo Arellano — a columnist and bestselling author of “Ask a Mexican ($25, Scribner) ” — gives a history of Mexican food in this nation in “Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America.”

I am reading it now.
