Teen in Amish buggy ejected, killed in crash

A 17-year-old was killed in a Amish buggy crash in Wayne County, Ind. Thursday night.

Around 9:30 p.m., an Amish buggy driven by Michael Lapp, 21, of Modac, was northbound on U.S. 35 south of Newman Road with no lights on. A northbound car was unable to stop and struck the rear of the buggy, knocking it into southbound lanes.

The buggy was then sideswiped by a southbound car, and a 17-year-old in the buggy, identified as Jonas Beiler, 17, of Economy, was ejected onto the roadway. Beiler was then struck by a northbound car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the buggy and a female passenger, along with the car drivers, were not injured. The horse was also uninjured.
