Temps drop, water mains burst around county

Crews are working to repair a number of water main breaks that happened as temperatures dropped overnight.

Montgomery County Environmental Services has crews working to repair eight main breaks across the county, according to spokeswoman Brianna Wooten.

Most but not all should get fixed today, and crews are expected to fix the rest by Tuesday.

Wooten said they anticipate seeing main breaks when temperatures rise and fall in a short period of time.

Temps were well above freezing over the weekend, then plunged into the teens overnight heading into Monday morning.

“It causes the ground to contract and expand and puts added strain on the water lines,” Wooten said. “Our crews are working diligently in the frigid temperatures to make repairs, so we appreciate our customers patience while we work to restore their water service.”

To report a main break, call the county at (937) 781-2678.
