'The West Wing' stars stop in Dayton for campaign pitch

Former cast members of the television show "The West Wing" and their family members piled onto the back of a pickup parked behind a building on East First Street to urge supporters to volunteer for the Hillary Clinton campaign and energize them get others registered to vote before the Oct. 11 deadline.

Dayton was one of six locations the TV show cast planned to visit in Ohio over the weekend. Other stops included Boardman, Cleveland, Sandusky, Toledo and Columbus.

Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Joshua Malina, Mary McCormack, Richard Schiff and Bradley Whitford addressed the crowd and talked about why they support Clinton and how they could help the campaign.

“I am so proud to be here talking on her behalf,” said Janney, a Dayton native who played the role of C. J. Cregg on "The West Wing," a political drama set in the White House that aired from 1999-2006.

“I don’t think there’s in the history of presidential candidates been someone with the depth and breadth of her experience. She is ready to do this job. We have to get it done. As Ohio goes, so goes the nation.”

Janney emphasized that what what volunteers do in the coming weeks is important.

“Making sure your friends, your neighbors, your families are all registered,” she said. “Making sure your waitresses and gas pump attendant, whoever you run into, make sure they’re registered to vote by October 11.”
