Thousands Of Chickens Destroyed In Mercer County Chicken House...

Firefighters in Mercer County were quick to save a high-rise poultry house and most of the 70,000 chickens inside the facility on the farm of Bill Stachler at 1725 Fleetfoot Road near St. Henry.

There were "15,000 to 17,000 chickens destroyed," according to St. Henry Fire Chief Ron Ontrop.

Eight fire departments responded to the alarm around 3 p.m.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it was not weather related, said Ontrop.
