Winter de-icing tips from AAA
- To avoid frozen door seals, wipe the seals with a dry cloth to remove moisture and spray with a lubricant such as WD-40, cooking oil spray or petroleum jelly.
- For frozen door locks, use a hair dryer to heat the key.
- You can also purchase de-icer products to spray into the lock, but don't combine heat with the lock de-icer as it is flammable.
- Never apply water to frozen locks.
- Lift windshield wiper blades away from the glass to prevent them from freezing to the windshield. Do not use wiper blades to clean ice from windshield it will damage the rubber on the blade.
- Keep your gas tank above the half-tank level to ensure you have extra "running time" in case of a breakdown.

The region got its first sizable snowfall and bitter temperatures, and AAA has tips for the safest and best ways to de-ice your vehicle.
AAA recommends using a de-icing spray on car locks and door seals, but do not pour hot water on the vehicle because it could crack the windshield or refreeze immediately which creates an even bigger problem.
AAA also recommends removing all snow and ice from head lights, tail lights, mirrors, windows and the roof of the vehicle so any snow or ice won’t fall off the vehicle on the highway or roadways.
Since midnight Monday, AAA’s Roadside Rescue Team has assisted more than 400 drivers in the Miami Valley area, said Cindy Antrican, AAA spokeswoman.
