Tires collected for free at Madison Twp. recycling event

Madison Twp. will be hosting tire clean-up events this month.

The township received a grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency that allows residents to drop off unwanted tires at no cost.

The tire amnesty program will only be honored from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 21-22 and from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 23 at the Madison Twp. Administration Building, 5610 W. Alexandria Road.

The free tire recycling event is only open to Madison Twp. residents, who must show proof of residency.

Residents may bring a maximum of 10 tires per address. Tire retailers, tire dealers, and businesses are prohibited from participating.

Collected tires will be sent to recycling facilities where they will be shredded into chips, which are primarily used for energy-related and civil engineering applications such as asphalt, rubber mulch, playground surfaces, fuel hoses, and other products.
