Town & Country lands new ‘junior anchor’ tenant

The owners of the Town & Country shopping center announced this afternoon that a 14,000-square-foot Petco store will open there next year.

The new pet store was identified as a “junior anchor” by officials from Columbus-based Casto, co-owner of Town & Country. It will be located adjacent to the mall’s newest anchor, a 23,000-square-foot T.J. Maxx store, which is currently under construction and is slated to open next fall in the center of the retail complex. The Petco is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2016, Casto officials said.

Petco operates a half-dozen pet stores around the Dayton area, including one at 2322 Far Hills Ave. in Oakwood that is less than two miles away from Town & Country shopping center. A manager at the Oakwood store referred questions about the new store’s potential impact to the Oakwood location to corporate officials, who could not be reached for comment this afternoon.

The shopping center on Stroop Road between Far Hills Avenue and Shroyer Road in Kettering is in the midst of a $7 million renovation that includes extensive changes to the shopping center’s interior, its facade, and to the parking lot, and added 2,500 square feet to an existing 10,000-square-foot Trader Joe’s grocery store.
