Dayton police Lt. critically injured in Huber Heights crash

UPDATE @ 11:02 a.m.:

Dayton police confirmed the Fairborn man critically injured in a crash on Chambersburg Road Sunday was a Dayton Police lieutenant.

Lt. Shanon Mason, 49, was injured in the crash, police said.

Mason will be placed on sick leave while he recovers from his injuries, according to Dayton officers.

INITIAL REPORT:

Police in Huber Heights said a Fairborn man is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash Sunday morning.

Officers and medics responded to Chambersburg Road, west of State Route 4 around 1:15 a.m. on a reported crash with injuries and possible ejection.

Huber Heights police Sgt. Mike Eagan said a car driven by a 49-year-old Fairborn man went off the right side of Chambersburg Road slammed into a tree. Eagan said the driver was found unconscious outside the car with serious injuries.

The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment, where Eagan said he is listed in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation, but police said there were no indications that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

The incident is being investigated by the Huber Heights Police Crash Reconstructionists.
