Police: Alcohol a factor in Vandalia crash that injured 2

UPDATE @ 1:30 a.m. (2/28)

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash that injured two people in Vandalia Saturday morning.

According to a crash report from Vandalia police, a red Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 40-year-old April Anderson of Dayton, lost control and went off the road in a bend on Poe Avenue around 1 a.m. on Feb. 27. The car slammed into a sign and two large rocks along the side of the road.

The passenger in the vehicle, identified as 46-year-old Francis Gagaris, told officers when they arrived on scene that Anderson had been drinking and “she had no business driving,” according to the crash report.

Anderson was pulled from the car by a bystander after a small fire started under the car. She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where she is currently listed in fair condition.

Gagaris was also injured and was transported to Grandview Hospital, but his condition was not available.

An open can of beer was also found inside the car during a search by police after the crash.

Anderson has been cited for reasonable control and OVI.
