EXCLUSIVE: What it’s like to drive on South Hamilton Crossing

When Joe Mader, 56, of West Chester Twp., learned that South Hamilton Crossing was opening Friday, he exclaimed a long and enthusiastic, “Yay!”

The smoothly paved new highway link will connect Ohio 4 at Grand Avenue with the area near Miami University Regionals campus in Hamilton, and beyond that, to the city’s West Side.

The Journal-News has exclusive video of what it’s like to drive the highway section that is important because it is only the second east-west roadway that isn’t broken up by the need to stop at the CSX railroad tracks.

Mader works in Hamilton and hopes, as city leaders do, that South Hamilton Crossing will alleviate the heavy congestion on High and Main streets through downtown, particularly during rush hours, but also at other times.

“I think it’ll alleviate traffic,” he said. Anyway, he added, “I can hope.”

“I’m glad it’ll get me over the train tracks,” he said.

The highway was to open 10 a.m. Friday.
