‘Upscale tavern’ Matt the Miller’s opening in West Chester

Matt the Miller’s Tavern is set to make its Butler County debut in October.

Located in West Chester Twp. at 9558 Civic Centre Blvd. just off Interstate 75’s Union Centre Boulevard exit, the new restaurant will offer upscale tavern favorites with a twist.

“Our sort of niche that we try to fill is what we call a ‘tweener’ restaurant,” said Jennifer Dring, communications manager for CLB Restaurants, the restaurant group that owns and operates four Matt the Miller’s Tavern locations.

That means offering a little more of an upscale experience, while still aiming to be comfortable, approachable and family-friendly, she said.

“We all have kids in our company and we want a nice restaurant that we can go to where we feel like we’re enjoying a nice evening out or a nice business lunch, but if we have our kids with us, they’re very comfortable as well, they’re very welcomed,” Dring said.

The menu at Matt the Miller’s Tavern also aims to be unique, offering tried-and-true favorites like burgers, flatbreads and sandwiches.

“One of the most popular items we have is the Ahi Tuna Flatbread,” Dring said. “It’s basically a pizza with sushi on it. It’s unique, delicious and fresh.”

There are also burgers and sandwiches with unique toppings, plus traditional entrees including fresh fish, pork tenderloin and a high-quality steak program aimed at rivaling many steakhouses in the local market. Also popular is a Sunday Brunch menu and a Bloody Mary bar.

“We kind of cover all the bases, but we try to make things just a little unique that’s something you’re not going to find in every other restaurant,” Dring said.

The MTM identity also has been based in craft, draft and local beer, but premium wines are also becoming a centerpiece of the restaurant.

The West Chester Twp. location will be the first location to have installed at its opening Enoline Wine Systems, which allow guests to enjoy 2-, 4-, or 6- ounce pours of high-end wines that are not normally available by the glass.

Matt the Miller Tavern has three Ohio locations — Dublin, Grandview and Columbus’ Polaris area — as well as Carmel, Ind. A Kenwood location is set to open in mid-October.

The West Chester Twp. restaurant will be located in the Streets of West Chester shopping center, just two miles north of I-275 and near Duluth Trading Company, Holtman’s Donuts, Chuy’s Tex-Mex, Topgolf and Main Event.

Both MTM location are hiring about 70 people for each new location, including six to eight people for full-time management positions with the remainder of staff jobs being part-time hourly positions for front and back of house staff such as servers dish washers.
