If a complaint of loud noise is made and the sound crosses the property barrier, an Urbana police officer will investigate.
If a person is cited, fines could be up to $150. Urbana city leaders said they looked at how other communities handle noise before coming up with this plan.
City officials said there are some details that need to be tweaked. However, they do want public input.
If you want to have a party and you want to play music, city leaders said residents can apply for a permit.
