Vectren warns cold March will increase bills

Natural gas provider Vectren is warning that the long, cold month of March increased the bills that customers will receive this month.

The company, headquartered in Evansville, Ind., said that March was 20 percent colder than normal and 145 percent colder than March in 2012, a year when winter seemed to have taken a long holiday.

“As such, your April natural gas bill, which reflects March consumption, will likely be higher than normal - due to the fact that for most, the furnace was on all month long,” Vectren said.

January and February were warmer than normal, Vectren said, so customers did enjoy some savings during those months.

Vectren said consumers who find themselves behind on payments and need assistance should telephone the utility by calling 1-800-227-1376.

Consumers may request a payment arrangement, which allows them to pay a bill in smaller increments over an extended period of time. The service is free with no interest charges.

There are other options for those who have previously broken payment arrangements, Vectren said.
