Vehicular Homicide Suspect Sentenced

It was an emotional scene inside a Miami County courtroom when a 19-year-old was sentenced on a misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide.

The charges stem from an accident on Route 201 in Miami County last summer where driver Matthew Shinall, of Troy, was seriously injured. Authorities said Shinall's passenger, Curtis, Welch, 18, of Huber Heights, was killed.

Investigators said Shinall had been drinking. Judge Elizabeth Gutmann sentenced Shinall to six months in the county jail, a $500 fine and revoked his driving privileges for five years.

Shinall is expected to begin his sentence on Saturday.
