Victim chooses wrong time to loan phone to crying stranger

A victim, returning to his apartment in the 100 block of Woolery Lane after a workout, picked up a crying female standing on the corner after she told him she was kicked out of her apartment and needed to use a phone.

He took her to his apartment at 12:35 p.m. and went into his bedroom to change clothes while she used his phone. When he returned, she was finished using the phone and left, and he did not notice his wallet – which had been on the counter near the phone – was missing.

The next morning, he did, noting the wallet contained $30 in cash, two credit cards, a Sinclair Community College card and his driver’s license.

Police asked the victim if he was in the habit of inviting total strangers into his home and leaving them alone. The victim said he didn’t understand the question. All he understood was his wallet was missing.
