Victim In Fatal Shooting Was Shot Last Year

The Dayton Police Department is looking for the person who shot and killed a man inside an apartment on West Grand Avenue Friday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 1 p.m. in the rear of an upstairs apartment, according to an unidentified witness.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Jamahl Moore, 22, of Dayton.

Witnesses said once the shots were heard, one resident noticed someone running from the apartment building.

News Center 7 archives show Moore was nearly killed in July 2010, in a shooting on Ludlow Street. Police said it was a miracle Moore survived then.

Officers arrived, blocked off the shooting scene and began to questioning residents and neighbors in what turned out to be an emotional and volatile scene.

"This is the first time we've lost someone in our family due to something tragic like this," Moore's cousin Kizzy Howard said. "It's very painful. It's so painful, I can't shed a tear at this moment."

Police are looking for several suspects, but did not have any information on them or a possible motive for the shooting.

Nearby residents have long observed drug activity around the site of shooting death, our partners at the Dayton Daily News reported.
