Tossed like a toy, a sailboat capsized and smashed into the Redondo Beach Pier Thursday evening.

Four people are recovering Friday after their sailboat capsized in King Harbor and crashed into the pilings of the Redondo Beach Pier.

Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division responded just after 7 p.m. Thursday and found four people in the water.

As seen in the video, the boaters were tossed from their sailboat which then collided into the pier and broke apart.

Authorities say powerful winds and big waves may have caused the accident.

Two people were "relatively uninjured" and were treated for mild hypothermia. The two others had some bumps and scrapes -- one with a dislocated shoulder and the other with back injuries.

The victims, three men and one women between 20 and 50 years old, were all wearing life jackets.

They had been out sailing during a weekly boat race when they crashed.
