Arbor Day at Caesar Creek Lake State Park

Ohioans wanting to celebrate Arbor Day this year are encouraged to donate and help plant a tree at Caesar Creek State Park on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In return for their efforts, participants will receive one free night of camping for each tree they donate and help plant.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is encouraging park visitors to donate mature native tree saplings and help park staff and volunteers plant them in an effort to replace trees that were affected by the emerald ash borer infestation. A number of ash trees within the state parks system were removed as they posed a safety risk to visitors.

State park visitors will receive one free night of camping during the 2016 season at the state park of their choice for each donated mature sapling that is at least five feet in height. The promotion is limited to two free nights of camping per family. To receive camping vouchers, state park visitors must help staff and volunteers plant the tree. Ohio State Parks requests that people donate native tree species, such as red maple, red oak, burr oak, yellow poplar and beech. More native tree species can be found at: forestry.ohiodnr.gov/trees

Planting will start with a pre-meeting at 10 a.m. at the campground shelter near the campground boat ramp. Donated trees will be planted in marked areas in the campground. The park will provide the necessary equipment and supplies as well as the assistance of volunteers and staff.

Caesar Creek State Park is located in Warren County at 8570 E. Ohio 73. For more information, call 740-506-4378. STAFF REPORT
