Winter is here: Snow expected this weekend

Winter weather has finally arrived in the Miami Valley as snow is expected this weekend.

While it’s still too early to tell how much snow will be on the ground, a storm system will bring a chance for sticking snow Saturday, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini said.

The forecast calls for “light” accumulations this weekend, with highs peaking in the low to mid 30s.

The system will pull away on Sunday, leaving a chance for light snow showers or flurries. Highs will be near normal in the mid 30s with broken clouds, according to the Storm Center 7 forecast.

The temperatures are seasonable, according to the forecast. The area has had a bout of warm weather in recent weeks, with highs reaching more than 50 degrees at some points.

While the weather might seem cold compared to recent warmth, the area has recorded significantly colder temperatures in in the past in early January. Four years ago, low temperatures neared zero degrees for Jan. 10, 2015, according to Weather Underground.
