West Chester Twp. teen struck, killed on I-70 in Pa.

A 19-year-old Butler County resident was struck and killed this morning by a semi after he stopped and got out of his car on Interstate 70 in Pennsylvania.

The Washington County Coroner’s Office said Osman Mohammad Bakali was in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 between mile markers 35 and 36 in Charleroi. The coroner’s report said Bakali thought he struck something around 9 a.m., so he pulled over his car to the side of the road to check for damage. While he was walking around his car, he was hit by a westbound tractor-trailer, the Associated Press reported.

He was pronounced dead about an hour later. The coroner’s office said he died of multiple blunt-force trauma.

Around 9:30 a.m., PennDOT reported that all lanes were closed between Exit 36 and Exit 35.

The scene was cleared around 1 p.m. The accident is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
