A grand jury in Montgomery County has found enough evidence to indict William Spear on nine new charges. He was labeled a Tier II sex offender as a result of earlier crimes, police said.
Investigators said Spear has a long criminal history.
In 2000, court officials said Spear spent nearly two years in prison for the attempted rape of a child. Then, in 2003, he spent another year in prison for attempted gross sexual imposition by force and attempted abduction.
Now, authorities said Spear faces nine charges, including four counts of rape, two counts of abduction, two counts of kidnapping and one count of robbery. The charges stem from three separate crimes with three different victims.
On March 4, police said Spear forced a woman to have sex underneath the Rosedale Drive bridge. Then, on March 5, police said Spear made serious attempts to rape a woman while holding her inside his Superior Avenue home until she got away and called police.
According to police, on March 19, Spear raped another woman. They said it began as a date.
Spear has been in the Montgomery County Jail since March 20 and is being held without bond.
