Work begins to restore fire-gutted opera house

Restoration is underway in New Bremen to restore the fire-gutted1895 Opera House on West Monroe Street in the downtown area.

The owner of the building, Crown Equipment Corp. has hired a local contractor to begin the restoration in phases.

The building is appraised by the Auglaize County auditor at $136,000.

It was damaged by fire in February.

The Fireside Pub, and a barber shop located inside the Opera House were damaged. The barbershop has since relocated a few blocks away.
