WPAFB doctor of osteopathic medicine earns clinical research award

Each year approximately 3,000 resident physicians and fellows submit their abstracts and posters to the American College of Physicians abstract and poster competition to be reviewed by their peers, and out of those submissions, 300 are chosen.

This year, Capt. Micheal Massoud, doctor of Osteopathic medicine with the 88th Medical Group, was selected for the individual award in the clinical research poster category.

“My poster highlighted patient-oriented research,” said Massoud. “This research deals with and includes mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, epidemiologic and behavioral studies, and outcomes of research and health services, to name a few examples.”

Although Massoud is excited he won the individual award, he said it was a team effort in the research with several people: his research associate, Capt. James Dizmang, MD, internal medicine (medical advisor); Maj. Kathryn Burtson, MD, internal medicine residency program director, 88th Medical Group and associate program director at Wright State University Medical School; Maj. Joshua Scott, chief rheumatologist, 88th Medical Group; and Massoud’s advisor, Ronald Markert, Ph.D., faculty, Department of Medicine, biostatistics, Wright State University.
