Xenia Police Warn Drivers After Car Break-In

Xenia police said officers checking into a possible car theft tracked down one young man they believed was involved. Two other men remain on the loose.

Police said they received a call about a theft in progress just after midnight Wednesday. Officers went to an apartment complex on the west side of town at Deer Creek Drive near Progress Drive.

Authorities said they found a woman's vehicle with broken windows and were told that her purse was missing. They said witnesses described seeing three young men go through that vehicle.

Officers began cruising the streets around the apartment complex and spotted the suspects. Officers chased the three young men and caught one of them.

The teenagere who was captured was taken to the Greene County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police said they also recovered the woman's purse.

Xenia Police said there are things you can do to try to avoid becoming a victim of these car breakins during the summer months. Sgt. Peter Wyza said, "We just always recommend that people keep the doors locked to their vehicle, don't make it easy for someone to come by and get access to the vehicle."

Police said other steps include parking in a brightly lighted area and taking your valuables with you when you get out of the car. The items that attract the most interest are GPS systems, CD's and DVD's, change holders and, of course, women's purses.
