22-year-old man indicted in March fatal crash

A Montgomery County grand jury indicted a 22-year-old man in relation to a crash in March that seriously injured one person and killed another.

Steven Lamar Mayberry, Jr., of Dayton, is charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, and one count each of aggravated vehicular assault and vehicular assault, the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.

Mayberry allegedly was driving at a high rate of speed when he ran through a red light at U.S. 35 and Liscum Drive and struck another vehicle, driven by 24-year-old Samuel R. Lerch, of Spokane, Wash., according to the prosecutor’s office.

Lerch died as a result of injuries he sustained and his passenger, 25-year-old William E. Partridge, of Concord, N.C., was seriously injured.

Partridge continues to suffer significant trauma from the injuries he sustained and he will require extensive medical care for the rest of his life, Montgomery County Prosecutor Matt Heck said in a statement.

Mayberry is being held in the Butler County Jail. An initial court hearing has not been scheduled.
