Deputies in Darke County are investigating the near drowning of a 3-year-old child.

On Sunday at approximately 2:08 p.m., deputies, along with Gettysburg Fire and Rescue were dispatched to Hahn Road in reference to a 3-year-old child who had been reported not breathing in reference to a drowning in a swimming pool.

According to authorities, prior to deputies and medics arriving, family members managed to revive the child and got him breathing.

The initial investigation revealed that Taviona Kuhn, 3, of St. Paris, was swimming with her foster mother, Kylie Langstaff, 26, also of St. Paris and other family friends. Langstaff was sitting on the pool deck with her mother, watching the children swim when Kearra Jones, 9, of Union City, reported that she had just come above the water and realized that Kuhn was not in her blow-up ring.

Jones then went under water looking for Kuhn and found her floating in the pool. Jones said she pulled Kuhn up and yelled for Langstaff. Family members called 911 and began CPR.

Kuhn was treated at the scene and then transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight.

Langstaff told deputies that Kuhn just took swimming lessons in the fall and winter. She also told deputies that Kuhn was in a blow up ring.
