Thuney, a seventh-year guard from N.C. State, was part of an offensive line given particular credit for taking care of a powerful Eagles front that entered the game leading the league in sacks but had none in the biggest game of the year.
“The offensive line, how they played in the second half, that’s the reason we won this game,” Chiefs quarterback told reporters after the game.

Thuney, who was a marquee free agent signee with the Chiefs prior to last season, got a shoutout on the Fox television broadcast for a lead block late in the game, and he got some camera time early when he spiked the ball after a Kansas City touchdown.
A national photographer also snapped a photo of Thuney greeting his parents after the game.

Thuney’s triumph comes one year after Oakwood graduate Michael Hoecht picked up his first Super Bowl win as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.
Thuney is the second Dayton-area player to win three Super Bowls, joining Matt Light of Greenville. He played in five big games for the Patriots and won in 2001, ‘03 and ‘04.
They are the only multi-time winners.
The other Dayton-area players to win one are St. Henry offensive linemen Jim Lachey (Redskins, 1991) and Jeff Hartings (Steelers, 2005), Centerville linebacker A.J. Hawk (Packers, 2010), Springboro tight end Jake Ballard (Giants, 2011) and Miamisburg linebacker David Bruton (Broncos, 2015).
