Alter High School graduate Jaaron Simmons will start his coaching career as a graduate manager on the staff of new Michigan Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard. The University of Michigan announced the hire Monday.

"Blessed to receive this opportunity to be a part of this new journey in Michigan Basketball," Simmons wrote on Twitter. "Thank you @JuwanHoward."

According to Michigan, Simmons’ responsibilities will include “analyzing film, providing analytics to prepare scouting reports and assist in game planning, helping the coaching staff with on-campus recruiting events and co-supervising the student managerial program. Also, in the summer, he will coordinate coaching staff recruiting schedules and help with Michigan basketball camps.

Simmons played one season with the Houston Cougars and two with the Ohio Bobcats before transferring to Michigan for his final season in 2017-18. He scored 1,149 points in his career.

In his one season at Michigan, Simmons averaged 1.5 points in 33 games and scored nine points in six NCAA tournament games. Michigan lost to Villanova in the NCAA championship game in 2018.

Simmons signed last June to play with Union Neuchâtel in Switzerland. He appeared in 13 games last season, averaging 8.5 points.
