Darren Hertz will join new Dayton Flyers coach Anthony Grant’s staff, according to a source on Wednesday. The hire has not been officially announced.
Hertz is the first addition to Grant’s staff. He spent the last two seasons as a special assistant to head coach John Groce at Illinois. Groce was fired in March and is now the head coach at Akron.
Hertz spent 19 seasons (1996-2015) at the University of Florida on head coach Billy Donovan’s staff. Grant was also on the same staff from 1996-2006. Hertz worked his way up from student graduate assistant to video coordinator to assistant head coach and director of basketball operations
Hertz is a native of Miami, Fla., like Grant. He attended Miami Killian High School and graduated from the University of Florida.
