- Midwest Athletic Conference charter member New Bremen might be at a crossroads in football.
An announcement about a community meeting on Wednesday with a “main focus on our football program” has ignited a lot of Internet chatter about the fate of Cardinals football in the MAC.
Besides being win-challenged in the sport, New Bremen apparently is bracing for a couple of incoming middle-school classes that are exceptionally low in boys numbers.
Athletic director Gary Jones said there will be no major announcement. There will, however, be plenty of speculation. The Cardinals are 4-46 over the past four seasons and were 0-10 as a Division VI member last fall.
- Former Dunbar basketball standout Andre Yates has transferred from Creighton to Cleveland State. Yates drove the length of the floor and hit the game-winning shot in Dunbar's 54-52 defeat Elyria to cap a 28-0 season and win the Division II state championship in 2012.
The 6-foot-2 guard played sparingly in his only season at Creighton. He’s sitting out this season and will have three seasons of eligibility with the Vikings.
- Wayne grad and Ohio State University senior Demoye Bogle reset a school 60-meters indoor hurdles record (7.65) during last Friday's season-opening Buckeye Classic at French field House. That's the top time in the event in Division I this season.
