The Florence Freedom baseball team now has a new name, the Florence Y’alls, inspired by the city’s iconic water tower between the Florence Mall and interstates 75 and 71.

In addition to the rebranding, the team also has new colors of red, cream and sky blue.

The name was approved by Florence City Council Tuesday night, but it was chosen by fans who submitted and voted on suggestions when the team announced in October it planned to change its name.

The Florence Y’alls are a member of the West Division of the Frontier League.

In 2003, the team played home games at Foundation Field in Hamilton, Ohio, with former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tom Browning as team manager, while owners were building a new stadium in Florence.
