Middletown native Kyle Schwarber's towering home run he hit yesterday is about to be protected by a plastic case and security guards, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The home run landed on top of the scoreboard during yesterday's series clinching Game 4, which marked the first time the Cubs have clinched a series in the 101 year history of Wrigley Field. After being removed by Cubs officials to verify the baseball was hit by Schwarber, it was returned to the top of the scoreboard for the duration of the MLB Playoffs.
Officials confirmed to the Tribune that the tean will send a security guard to the top of the scoreboard whenever the scoreboard is being maintenance.
Many assumed the home run, which sent the crowd into a frenzy, had cleared Wrigley Field. The home run came in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Cubs take a two-run lead.
In five postseason games, Schwarber has hit, 538 and added three home runs and five RBIs. He is tied for the most hits in the postseason so far with seven, and leads all major leaguers with four runs.
The Cubs will await the winner of the Dodgers-Mets series.
