The only goal for the Dayton Flyers women’s soccer team Wednesday night landed it on ESPN’s SportsCenter.

Beavercreek High School graduate Diana Benigno, a junior midfielder, scored an unassisted goal in the 24th minute in a 1-0 victory against Davidson in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament at Baujan Field.

After a corner kick by Dayton, a Davidson defender headed the ball out of the box. Benigno didn’t let the ball hit the ground. She volleyed it with her right foot from the right side of the penalty box into the top left corner of the net. The goal ranked seventh on SportsCenter’s compilation of the top-10 plays of the day.

Dayton, the No. 2 seed, will play No. 1 seed Saint Louis, which ranks 10th in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches poll, at noon Sunday in St. Louis. The Billikens beat No. 6 seed Saint Joseph’s 2-0 on Wednesday.

Dayton (16-3-1) seeks its 11th tournament championship and first since 2016. Saint Louis (19-1) has won the tournament six times and four times in a row. Saint Louis beat Dayton 2-1 on Oct. 16 at Baujan Field.

Saint Louis won the regular-season championship with a 10-0 mark. Dayton finished second at 8-2.

The A-10 tournament winner receives an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. The bracket will be revealed Monday.
