Braves bash Garrett in return from DL

Amir Garrett’s return from the disabled list was a rough, and short, one as Atlanta roughed up the Cincinnati right-hander in a 13-8 victory Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 26,227 at Great American Ball Park.

Garrett lasted just 2.2 innings after allowing nine runs on seven hits with three walks. The Braves chased Garrett (3-4) with five runs in the third, highlighted by Ender Inciarte’s three-run home run that made it 9-2.

Inciarte went 5 for 5 with a career-high five RBIs, while Danny Santana also homered as part of a four-hit day. Matt Adams, who homered twice in Saturday’s win, hit a solo shot to start the scoring in the Braves’ five-run third.

Zack Cozart led the Reds offense with a huge day that included two home runs, a triple and career high-tying five RBIs. Four of the runs he drove in came off Atlanta starter Julio Teheran (5-4), who got the win despite allowing seven runs on 11 hits.

Arismendy Alcantara, who started in place of injured Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton, added a two-run homer, his first of the year.

The Reds return to action Monday night at home against St. Louis.
