Dayton Diamonds

to hold tryouts

The Dayton Diamonds women’s professional football team will hold tryouts for the 2017 season Aug. 20 from noon to 3 p.m. at Triangle Park in Dayton. There is no fee to tryout.

Triangle Park is at the corner of Ridge Ave. and Riverside Dr. Workout clothing is required.

The Diamonds are members of the Women’s Football Alliance and play their games from April through June. This is full-contact football and travel is required. National Football League rules will apply.

Former UD star

pursues NBA dream

Former Dayton Flyers forward Chris Wright will sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to a report.

Wright played in 24 games with the Golden State Warriors in 2011-12 and eight games with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013-14. He played last season in Israel with Maccabi Rishon, averaging 12.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in 34 games. In 2014-15, Wright played in Poland with PGE Turow.

Wright, 27, is a Trotwood-Madison High School graduate. He finished his UD career in 2011 and ranks 15th in school history with 1,601 points.

ESPN analyst

to speak at WSU

ESPN basketball analyst Chris Broussard will be the featured speaker at Wright State’s second annual Raider Tip-Off Premiere on Oct. 6. The Premiere acts as the launch to the 2016-17 basketball season and includes a VIP reception, silent auction, dinner, introductions of the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the guest speaker.

The VIP reception will begin at 6 with the main program starting at 7 on the Nutter Center arena floor. Contact the WSU athletic department for ticket information.
