Chaminade Julienne announces death of swim coach

Chaminade Julienne High School announced on Tuesday that swim coach Kate Corrado Whistler has died.

Whistler was listed as the Eagles’ boys and girls swim coach. She was a 1990 CJ graduate.

“It is with deep sadness that we share head swim coach Kate Corrado Whistler ’90 passed away (Tuesday),” read a release from CJ. “Kate was a treasured member of the CJ community & her impact in & out of the pool will truly be missed. Continued prayers for her, her family & all of whom she coached and inspired.”

Whistler was diagnosed with colon cancer. She was named the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed coach of the year following last season and retired from coaching due to the illness. Whistler and her husband, Bill Whistler, were CJ’s annual fund co-chair this year.

Besides her husband, Whistler also is survived by children Quinn Corrado, a 2013 CJ graduate, and Mia Whistler, who will be a junior at CJ.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 149 Franklin St., Dayton. A celebration of life will follow at Mary, Our Lady of Victory Gym on the CJ campus for family and friends.
