Also expected to be contenders for Robert are the Astros, White Sox, Padres and Cardinals. The A’s could be in the mix, too.
The Reds have already signed two Cubans in the past year. Right-handed pitcher Vladimir Rodriguez is the No. 6 international prospect while shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez is No. 8.
They are both with the Advanced Single-A Daytona Tortugas this season.
The Reds connections to Cuba go back many years, including seven seasons in the 1950s when they had a Triple-A affiliate in Havana – the Sugar Kings.
Well-known Reds from Cuba include Dolf Luque, Tony Perez, Leo Cardenas and Aroldis Chapman along with current Reds reliever Raisel Iglesias.
