Coffing one of 5 ‘Big Break’ finalists

Middletown native calls latest performance on Golf Channel show ‘boring.’

Carling Coffing called her performance in the latest episode of The Golf Channel’s “Big Break Sandals Resort” reality show “boring,” but she survived to earn a spot in the final five.

The Middletown native was a member of the winning threesome in the immunity challenge, beating both a team of fellow contestants and a team that included the three previous Big Break champions.

The win earned Coffing, Sara Brown and Seema Sadekar a spot on next week’s show as well as an all-expenses-paid trip to the Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort in Providenciales in the Caribbean.

“My mom (Leona) is my best friend in the whole world, so I’m going to take her and we’re going to have the time of our lives,” Coffing said via telephone after Monday night’s broadcast.

In the previous episode July 19, Coffing had a bit of a spat with Brown. But on Monday’s show, Brown hit the big shots that helped their team win.

“I wouldn’t say it was all me why we won, but it was kind of all me the reason we won,” Brown said on the show.

When asked if Brown’s performance smoothed out their differences from the last show, Coffing said, “Sara and I have been rivals since I was in junior golf, so nothing will ever smooth out between us. But it’s a friendly rivalry.”

Chris Brady, Taryn Durham and Lili Alvarez were on the losing team and sent to the elimination challenge, where Brady became the sixth woman cut from the show.
