Coffing wins immunity, advances on Big Break reality show

Carling Coffing did more sipping than chipping on the second episode of The Golf Channel’s Big Break Sandals Resorts reality show.

The 24-year-old Middletown resident made three consecutive up-and-downs from 50 yards out to win the opening immunity challenge, which enabled her to sit poolside sipping champagne instead of competing in the elimination challenge.

Her win also gave Coffing the chance to either save a fellow competitor or send one straight to the elimination challenge. Coffing elected to save Maiya Tanaka, and the two spent the rest of the show ordering drinks on the pool deck at the Sandals Emerald Bay in Great Exuma, Bahamas.

“I’m not saying she’s weak,” Coffing said of Tanaka while explaining her decision. “I just don’t know for sure she’s good, whereas I know some of these other girls are really good.”

The remaining eight players went head-to-head in a long drive contest. The four winners were safe, while the four losers moved on to the elimination challenge, where Kelly Sheehan became the second player eliminated from the show.

Coffing is one of nine players remaining. The winner will receive invitations to compete in the 2010 Lorena Ochoa Invitational on the LPGA Tour and to the 2010 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour, as well as a $10,000 endorsement contract, a $10,000 shopping spree at Dick’s Sporting Goods and free entry to Q School, as well as having entry fees paid for all of the 2010 Duramed FUTURES Tour events.

Monday’s episode will re-air several times this week. The next new episode will air at 9 p.m. July 5.
