Flyers drop out of top 25 after one week

A 63-60 victory over Richmond on Saturday at UD Arena wasn’t enough to keep the Dayton men’s basketball team in the top 25.

Ranked 22nd in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls last week, the Flyers (16-3, 6-1 Atlantic 10) dropped from the top 25 in both polls Monday because of a 77-60 loss at Davidson on Tuesday. It’s the second straight season they’ve dropped from the top 25 one week after entering the polls for the first time.

Dayton fell to 31st in the AP poll.

Dayton is ranked 28th in the USA Today poll right between two teams it beat in the NCAA tournament last season: one spot behind Ohio State and one spot ahead of Stanford.

One A-10 team is in the top 25. Virginia Commonwealth is 14th in the AP poll and 15 in the USA Today Coaches poll.

Dayton plays at Massachusetts at 7 p.m. Thursday.
