Jets draft Ohio State receiver Devin Smith in second round

Ohio State wide receiver Devin Smith’s long wait at the NFL draft ended Friday, and he told ESPN on the stage in New York City, “It was worth it.”

The New York Jets selected Smith, of Massillon, Ohio, with the fifth pick the second round. He was the 37th pick overall and the first Buckeye taken in the 2015 draft.

On Twitter, Smith wrote, “J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS BABY!!!”

Smith was one of the few players to attend the draft in person not to get taken in the first round Thursday.

As a senior at Ohio State last season, Smith led the Buckeyes with 931 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns and 28.1 yards per catch. He ranked third on the team with 33 receptions.

Smith finished his career with 30 touchdown catches, ranking second in Ohio State history. He also had 121 receptions and 2,503 yards.
