The stroll through the streets of Columbus took 19 miles. He dotted the “i” in Ohio by going around Ohio Stadium.
Orwick’s journey started in the town of Upper Arlington, a suburb of Columbus that is just west of Ohio State’s campus. After spelling out the first “O” in Ohio, he marched east down Lane Avenue and went around Ohio State’s Woody Hayes Athletic Complex and Schottenstein Center to help him spell out “h.” He then used the areas in and around OSU’s campus to spell the rest of the state.
“My coworker friends and I thought it would be cool to start off the football season by mapping and walking the Ohio Script this past weekend and using the stadium as the "I" dotting,” Orwick said on Reddit.
Orwick said that eight miles into the walk, he thought it would have been much better to bike the route.
The Ohio State Marching Band considers Script Ohio, “The most memorable tradition in college band history.” The band began the tradition in 1936 and has recreated the pattern at every home game since.
