Ohio State signs $252 million deal with Nike

Ohio State announced Thursday it has signed a new 15-year contract with Nike that will start in August 2018 when the current contract expires.

According to the Wall Street Journal, in the $252 million deal, Ohio State will receive $112 million worth of Nike products and $103 million in cash. The deal surpasses the one Michigan signed with Nike last season. That was an 11-year deal worth $169 million, according to reports.

In a press release, Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith said, “We approached this as a university contract, not one that’s purely focused on athletics. Under this partnership, every student — whether they play club sports, Division I sports or no sports at all — will be eligible to benefit.”

Ohio State and Nike say the contract will benefit the entire university. It includes “a significant endowment for student scholarships and NIKE internships for both athletes and non-athletes.”
