Nine-game winning streak ends for Dayton Flyers at GW

The Dayton Flyers dug themselves a deep hole in Foggy Bottom and never recovered, falling behind 16-1 in the opening minutes and losing 87-81 Saturday to George Washington at the Smith Center.

The Flyers cut a 17-point halftime deficit to 74-68 with 4:15 left, but that’s where the comeback stalled. Free-throw shooting hurt. UD has shot free throws well in the second half of the season but made 17 of 31 (54.8 percent).

Kendall Pollard made 8 of 10 field goals and scored 24 points.

GW's star: Tyler Cavanaugh made 6 of 8 3-pointers and scored 30 points in his final home game.

Key stat: The Colonials made 13 of 26 3-pointers.

Summary: Dayton's nine-game winning streak ended. It finished the regular season 24-6 and 15-3 in the A-10.

Big run: The Colonials made their first nine shots from the field and led 16-1 and then 21-5.

Comeback: Dayton got as close as 10 points before the Colonials went on another run at the end of the half.
