Dayton Flyers to return to Chicago Legends event in 2019

Dayton to play Colorado at United Center

The Dayton Flyers will play Colorado on Dec. 21, 2019, in the Chicago Legends event at the United Center.

UD announced the game Tuesday. Cincinnati will play Iowa in the other game of the doubleheader.

This will be Dayton's first game in Chicago since it played Northwestern on Dec. 17, 2016, at the United Center. Dayton lost that game 67-64.

According to a press release, Dayton has more than 5,000 alumni living in the Chicago area.

“We’re very excited to play in the 2019 Chicago Legends,” Dayton coach Anthony Grant said in a statement. “We are always looking to play quality opponents in quality events, and playing Colorado at the United Center certainly checks both boxes. I’m also excited that our fans and alumni in the Chicago area will be able to come out and see our team play in their hometown.”

Colorado finished 17-15 last season and is off to a 5-1 start this season. It played in the NCAA tournament four times in a five-year stretch from 2011-2016.

Colorado's leading scorer this season is former Dayton recruit McKinley Wright IV (14.8 points per game). He committed to Dayton when Archie Miller was the head coach but switched to Colorado after the hiring of Grant.

Dayton last played Colorado in the 2012 Charleston Classic, losing 67-56. Colorado and Dayton split the previous two meetings. Dayton won 67-66 in 1986 at UD Arena. Colorado won 77-59 in Boulder, Colo., in 1987.

This is the first known non-conference game on Dayton's 2019-2020 schedule. The Flyers will also play in the Maui Invitational from Nov. 25-27. Its possible opponents are: Brigham Young, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan State, UCLA, Virginia Tech and host Chaminade.
