Dayton senior thanks UD, says he’s ready for next journey

Jordy Tshimanga started all but one game this past season

Jordy Tshimanga, a fifth-year senior for the Dayton Flyers in the 2020-21 season, published a poem on Instagram on Wednesday, and it was both a thank you and goodbye note to UD.

Tshimanga played his first two seasons at Nebraska, transferred to Dayton in August of 2018 and was a key reserve on the 29-2 team of 2019-20. He moved into a starting role this past season and started 23 of 24 games, averaging a career high 6.7 points and 7.7 rebounds.

Dayton’s four seniors have the option of returning next season because the NCAA decided not to count the season against anyone’s eligibility. Rodney Chatman entered his name in the transfer portal on Monday and will keep his options open as he explores playing for another school or starting a professional career.

In his poem, Tshimanga said he’s ready for his next journey as he said goodbye to his teammates.

Dear UD,

Met you in rainy August 2018

The immediate love felt so unreal

Thankful and happy I decided to stay

Because it molded me into the man I am today

To the fans and classmates who loved the real me

Know that I love you back unconditionally

Through wins and losses, y’all remained present

I could never ask for any better present

To all my teammates I shared moments with

Know that your positive spirits kept mine lit

I will cherish all these memories always & forever

Til our paths cross again, I wish y’all well my brothers.

From a Real One, to you.
