Dayton women picked to win A-10

Flyers won regular-season and tournament titles last season

The Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team received eight of 14 first-place votes and was picked to repeat as Atlantic 10 Conference champions in the preseason poll released Monday at Media Day in Richmond, Va.

Senior guard Jenna Burdette was named to the preseason first team. Redshirt senior forward Alex Harris was named to the all-defensive team. The 14 conference coaches cast votes in the poll.

Saint Louis and St. Joseph’s each received three first-place votes. They were picked second and third respectively and were followed by Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, George Mason, Richmond, Massachusetts, Virginia Commonwealth, St. Bonaventure, Rhode Island and Davidson.

Dayton finished 22-10 overall and 13-3 in the A-10 last season, the first season for coach Shauna Green, who was named national rookie coach of the year. The Flyers clinched a share of the regular-season title by beating Saint Louis on Senior Night at UD Arena and then beat VCU, Saint Louis and Duquesne to win the conference tournament. Dayton lost 66-57 to Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
